Jean ‘Binta’ Breeze is known worldwide as a leading performance poet.  She has toured in the Caribbean, USA, Europe, Asia and Africa.  Her latest book/DVD
Third World Girl was published by Bloodaxe in 2011 and we were delighted recently to host Jean’s very successful launch party at the start of a 5-month national tour.  Originally from Jamaica, Jean has chosen Leicester as her UK home.

Rod Duncan


Rod Duncan writes fiction, non-fiction, screenplays and poetry.  He was shortlisted in 2003 for best debut crime novel of the year.  His first feature film 43 Pounds is now in production.

Beverley Hancock 


Beverley Hancock graduated with Distinction from her MA in Writing for Performance at Goldsmiths and her work has been produced at the Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse, Action Transport Theatre Company and the Arcola Theatre, London.  Professional productions include Adrift (2011), Into the Blue (2010) and Lights Out (2010)

Jim Hill 


Jim Hill is a graduate of the NFTVS and is a freelance writer and director.  He is the co-creator of BOON.  He is both a freelance writer and director and has worked on such popular shows as Minder, Casualty, Lovejoy, Pie In The Sky and Byker Grove.  He worked for Grundy Europe in Germany, Hungary, Finland and France as a story team leader on soap opera.


Rachel Lovell


Rachel Lovell writes for women’s magazines and has had over ninety stories published commercially to date


Bead Roberts  


Bead Roberts has written plays and radio stories and has had over 100 short stories published in small press and commercial magazines.  She has won or been short-listed in several national and international short story competitions

She has had plays broadcast on local radio, the BBC World Service and BBC Radio 4.  Several members of her previous radio writing courses have gone on to have their work produced on the radio.


Berta Stevens


Berta Stevens is the archetypal secret scribbler


Polly Tuckett  


Polly Tuckett is an experimental writer interested in the relationships between the private and public worlds of writing and performance.  She runs Short Fuse, a magazine style event which features art works in a variety of media, all of which aim to tell a story in some way.


 Debbie White   


Debbie White’s career as a children’s writer started when she enrolled here as a student.  She has subsequently had 5 books for younger children published by Oxford University Press and Random House.  Her first novel for teenagers is due in September, published by Templar, with a sequel due in 2012.
