| August 2007 Create a Short Comedy Film |
| A Writing School Leicester project, with generous support from the BBC and from Arts Council England |
In the exciting surroundings of BBC Leicester’s learning centre, full advantage was taken of state-of-the-art technology by a diverse group of adult students, guided by tutor Stephen Loveless and BBC staff. |

|
Working in 2 teams over 3 days, participants developed their own story ideas and took these to the next stage of a script (then a shooting script and filming schedule), produced storyboards, and hunted locations. Finally, they took on individual and interchanging filmmaking roles to work as film crews.

BBC Leicester |
Everyone had time behind the camera, filming, clapperboard and continuity, as well as prop creating and directing. Those who wished also took on acting roles. Under experienced guiding hands, they managed to overcome many of the problems of filmmaking from fluffing lines to props that had a mind of their own. Finally, their work over the 3 days was edited down into 2 short comedies. |

‘It was as close to real film-making as I’d thought. Very different from reading about it or attending a college course.’ Student feedback. |
